ISTE Standard 6: Facilitator
Educators facilitate learning with technology to support student achievement of the 2016 ISTE Standards for Students. Educators:
- Foster a culture where students take ownership of their learning goals and outcomes in both independent and group settings.
- Manage the use of technology and student learning strategies in digital platforms, virtual environments, hands-on makerspaces or in the field.
- Create learning opportunities that challenge students to use a design process and computational thinking to innovate and solve problems.
- Model and nurture creativity and creative expression to communicate ideas, knowledge or connections.
Artifact 6
This artifact is an activity which gets students involved in the process of research. The activity "gamifies" the challenge of Wuthering Heights, having students find secondary sources to provide analyses of these symbols. The game assesses whether students can seek sources, cite them, and incorporate information from them into an example of analysis. The symbols are visual, represented by images found only through scanning a QR code. Students must use this image to infer their symbol and find some source to back their inference. The first part of the game is individual and encourages students to work independently and efficiently to earn first place. However, the second part of the game places has those who are finished return to aid those who are lagging behind, promoting collaboration and facilitation. Students are not allowed to give away the answers, but they can help give their peers hints to help them out. Students compete now on teams. By the end, every student will have produced some piece of analysis based on a resource they tracked down themselves.
